Quick summary

The calm version

Allergies, eczema and recurrent wheeze are common in early childhood. Most families do best with three things: clear symptom records, daily care routines, and written action plans that every carer can follow.

TrackMild symptoms are still useful clues.
PlanAction plans reduce guesswork.
SkinEczema needs barrier care and flares treated.
BreatheBreathing difficulty is urgent.
ShareEvery carer needs the plan.

What matters most

  • Symptoms can overlap. Rashes, vomiting, cough, wheeze and sleep disruption need the right assessment.
  • Anaphylaxis and breathing difficulty need urgent action. Follow the ASCIA Action Plan if prescribed and call 000 for emergency signs. [1]
  • Eczema care is usually about daily moisturising, trigger reduction and using prescribed flare treatment correctly. [2][3]
  • Many young children wheeze with viral infections, but recurrent wheeze, cough or breathing difficulty needs GP review. [4][5]
  • Avoid unnecessary long-term food restriction without medical or dietitian advice.
  • Ask early if you are unsure. Clear plans are calming for parents and safer for children.
